Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• College level completion of courses in anatomy and physiology, biology, disease process and medical terminology. Requires knowledge of ICD-9CM coding nomenclature and CPT coding nomenclature which me be received through the completion of coding course or 3-4 years coding experience
• Previous coding experience preferred.

Job Duties:

• Assigns ICD-9CM codes and CPT codes to Methodist Hospital inpatients, outpatient surgery, rehab and skilled medical records to ensure maximum reimbursement and a valid database utilizing UHDDS definitions of principal and secondary diagnosis and principles of code assignment.
• Enters diagnosis and procedures codes into PRS to maintain Disease and Operation index and to allow for timely submission of claims to insurance companies by accessing computerized abstract and keying in diagnosis and procedure codes, admitting diagnosis code grouping to a DRG and entry of “C’s”.
• Ensures the availability of diagnosis and procedure codes to allow for the timely submission of claims to insurance companies.
