The Coordinator, Clinical Decision Support works with minimal supervision and
provides to the institution expertise not routinely available within the pharmacy staff
regarding use of evidence-based knowledge and resulting value to the organization and
outcomes for patients. Clinical Decision Support Coordinators provide leadership focused on
optimizing medication use and maximizing outcomes throughout The Nebraska Medical Center.
They work independently and in concert with other disciplines to coordinate accrual,
analysis and dissemination of new knowledge, utilization trends and outcomes information
related to medication use at The Nebraska Medical Center. Coordinators work with
appropriate personnel to assure monitoring and optimal medication use strategies are
implemented and sustained. They work in close cooperation with the Medical Staff Pharmacy
and Therapeutics Committee, appropriate Medical Staff Leadership, Service Line
Administrators, Pharmacy Operations Managers and Specialists, and Pharmacy & Pathology
Services Business Managers. Clinical Decision Support Coordinators provide necessary and
appropriate support for TNMC, as well as alternate sites and remote sites associated with
TNMC via Pharmacy Relations. This Coordinators’ abilities may also include a broad
background in specific management areas such as drug information, drug policy & economics,
antimicrobial stewardship, and research pharmacy.
Clinical Decision Support Coordinators are specifically responsible for making
recommendations to the Administrator regarding Drug Policy that promotes use of
evidence-based knowledge and resulting value to the organization and outcomes for patients.
Drug Policy must be consistent with safe and effective medication use and support
pharmacotherapy decision analysis to improve clinical care while managing drug costs.
Licensed as a Pharmacist by the state of Nebraska or eligible for licensure. Graduate of an
ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy. Doctor of Pharmacy Degree and PGY1 pharmacy residency
or equivalent experience required. PGY2 residency preferred (drug information specialty
preferred). Prior experience in drug information, drug policy development, academic
detailing, stewardship, research pharmacy operations and management or hospital pharmacy
management is required. Independent problem-solving skills and self-directed work
experience. Demonstrated outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Excellent
speaking ability and the ability to communicate with senior attending physicians is
mandatory. Experience in applying principles of performance improvement to complex
medication use issues. Maturity and coaching leadership skills. Ability to work
independently and handle stress appropriately.
